Baphumelele relies on donations to make the difference in the lives of the children, young people and patients who are cared for by the various different projects. Our wish list below gives an idea of the essential items that we need every year to help look after these most vulnerable members of the community:
Mama Nosiseko’s Sewing Project was robbed last night – they took the two sewing machines and the overlock machine so we are asking if anybody has an old working machine that they could donate so that Mama Nosiseko can continue sewing her bags.
Back to School Campaign! As the school year draws to an end, we are already thinking of the next year and also how much the children have grown. This year we are looking for help with ensuring that each of our 95 school going children in the Children’s Home have the right sized uniform ready for the new school year in January 2015. Donations of white school shirts, grey trousers/pants, white/grey scoks, and navy school jerseys/jumpers will make all the difference. The children also need school shoes as well as a school bag. If you are interested in helping, please contact us for sizes and age groups. Many thanks indeed.
Support for our staff – each year we try to ensure that our staff receive a little extra something to show our appreciation for all the effort they give in looking after the children, youth and patients here at Baphumelele. This is usually in the form of a little bonus, but also could be a gift or contribution towards a staff outing. Any help would be much appreciated.
Household goods and old furniture especially double bunk beds and single beds, chairs, tables, cupboards, two-burners and TVs (old style very much accepted). Kitchenware such as crockery, cutting knives, bread knives and cutlery would also be gratefully received as well as bed linen, curtains and towels. Carpet ends or old carpet and rugs are also on our wish list. This is all to help out the families most in need in our community who this winter we are trying to help with the building of new shack homes.
Meanwhile we are also always in need of:
Groceries such as maize meal, rice, sugar, samp, pasta, tinned fish, long life milk and other dry goods as well as vegetables and fruit
Electricity for our 19 electricity meters which light, help feed, wash and keep warm the many children and patients in our care (electricity is bought from a shop or online – if you wish to help with this, please contact us for the meter numbers)
Toiletries such as soap, toothpaste, deoderant (both boys and girls!), facecloths and towels
Baby supplies such as nappies (in small, medium, large, extra large sizes), Vaseline, aqueous cream and wet wipes
Please note that this is our basic wish list – further details can be found on each project page. If you would like further information or want to donate something in particular, please do contact Baphumelele – we can always find a good use for absolutely anything!
Many thanks for supporting us in this way.
